FAQ
General Therapy
-
The first session, called the Intake, is used to gather information about you, your story, and what brings you to therapy.
I will likely ask uncomfortable, awkward questions. Trust me, they can be awkward for me too! We’ll be awkward together, and we’ll get though it. You also don’t have to answer any questions you aren’t comfortable with! If you have a big, scary, thing, you don’t have to talk about it until you’re comfortable. I don’t expect you to trust me just because I’m a therapist. I want you to trust yourself and open up when and if you’re comfortable doing so.
-
Absolutely! Confidentiality is one of the cornerstones of therapy. I want you to be able to share with me without fear that I will tell anyone else. I am the only person that will have access to your records and cannot talk to anyone about you or your care, with a few notable exceptions:
If you disclose ongoing abuse or neglect of a child, someone who is elderly, or an adult in a vulnerable population.
If you are an imminent threat to yourself or others.
A court order signed by a judge
Outside of these very specific situations, I cannot talk to anyone without your consent and you can revoke that consent at any time.
-
That’s completely ok! I’m not going to be for everyone. I genuinely want you to find the right therapist for you, and that may not be me. Chances are, if you feel it’s not a good fit, I’m probably feeling it too! I want you to advocate for your needs. Please let me know if you aren’t feeling it. I promise it will be met with compassion, understanding, and I’ll likely even celebrate the fact that you felt comfortable enough to tell me!
I’m happy to provide referrals if you’d like, but no pressure! -
If you need help or support, please reach out right away! I am not a 24-hour crisis center, but that doesn’t mean options aren’t available.
